Queen of France and England. 963 Eleanor (or Alienor) married Louis VII in 1137. The marriage was annulled in 1152. She then married Henry Plantagenet in 1152. She was the Queen of France from 1137 to 1152, Queen of England from 1152 to 1189 and the regent of England from 1189 to 1194.

Education. 964 Eleanor's education was a notable exception to what young girls received at the time. She was taught to read in her native tongue and given instruction in Latin.

Death of her father, 9 Apr 1137, Compostela. 965 William was on a pilgrimage to Compostela garbed as a pilgrim. He drank contaminated water and collapsed by the wayside. Realising he was dying, he made his will, bequeathing his domains to Eleanor and appointing King Louis of France her guardian. He made his friends promise to approach King Louis and ask him to arrange the marriage of his son to Eleanor without delay, In the meantime, Louis could rule Aquitaine. In order to ensure that his duchy was not swallowed up by the French Crown, William further stipulated that Eleanor's domains should not be incorporated into the royal demesne but should remain independent and be inherited by Eleanor's heirs alone. Eleanor was 15.

Becomes Queen of France, 1137. 966 While riding to Paris from her wedding, Eleanore and Louis were intercepted by a messanger with the heart-stopping news that Louis's father had died unexpectantly of dysentery on 1 August. Eleanor was now the Queen of France.

Annulled, 21 Mar 1152, Beaugency, France. 967 Eleanor and Louis marriage was annulled on this date on a plea of consanguinity within the fourth degree. Eleanor married Henry II King of England on 18 May.

Eleanor next married King of France Louis VII the Young, son of King Louis VI "The Fat" of France and Adelaide, on 25 Jul 1137 in Saint-Andre cathedral, Bordeaux.962 (King of France Louis VII the Young was born in 1121 in Paris 968 and died in 1180 in Paris 968.)

Voided, 31 Mar 1152. 969 An assembly of French bishops declared that Louis and Eleanor were related within the prohibited bounds of consanguinity and their marriage was declared void.
