  Noted events in his life were:

Rebel, 1173, Nottingham. 748,1186 Robert led rebels against King Henry II, marching at their head upon Nottingham which was kept for the king by Reginald de Luci. The rebels got possession of the town and sacked it, putting the greater part of the inhabitants to the sword and taking the rest prisoners. Robert was soon after reduced to submission and obliged to surrender his castles of Tutbury and Duffield which were demolished by orders of the King.


Robert married Margaret Peverel, daughter of William Peverel and Adelina (Avicia) de Montgomery of Lancaster, in La Marche, Normandy, France.1192 (Margaret Peverel was born circa 1114 in Nottinghamshire, England,1195 died in 1154 in Oakham, Rutland, England 1193 and was buried in Merevale Abbey, Atherstone, Warwick, England 1195.)
