Occupation: Peoria, IL. 252 Daniel went to work in Shelley's hardware store when he was still a boy and was working there when he married Ellen at about the age of 20. He worked there for 12 years, sweeping out the store. He later worked as a packer in a factory in Peoria.

Census, 1860, Peoria, IL. 257 Daniel is living with his parents James and Mary and his brothers James, Patrick, John and Thomas in the 3rd Ward of Peoria in the 1860 census.

Federal Census, 1870, Peoria, IL. 258 Daniel is living with his family in Peoria. He is 13 and is shown as At School. His father, James, is 52, born in Ireland and a Laborer. His mother, Mary, is 46, born in Ireland and Keeps House. Both parents are shown as cannot read or write. Daniel's siblings are James, 20 a blacksmith's apprentice, Patrick, 18, a bricksmith's apprentice, John, 15, a laborer, Thomas, 11, George, 9 and Mary, 4. All the children were born in Illinois.

Occupation, 1886, Tarentum, PA. 259 When the factory where he worked moved to PA, Daniel followed it with his family. There he fell in with drinking companions. He broke the habit at the age of 35 and never touched whiskey again.

Occupation, Abt 1916, Chicago, IL. 260 John U Smyth got Daniel a job at the Pullman Company after his wife died. He was hit by a street car when he was 70 and broke his hand.

Residence. 260 Daniel resisted "being kept by any of his children" but eventually moved in with the Smyth family.

Daniel married Ellen Ward, daughter of John Ward and Unknown, on 2 Jun 1880 252.,253 (Ellen Ward was born about 1856 in (Peoria) and died in 1917 in Marion, IN or Oak Park Hospital.)
